In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,<\/b> Peace and blessings be upon the most honorable of messengers,<\/b><\/p>\n

Dear Citizens,<\/b><\/p>\n

On this eighth (08) of May, the Algerian people recall the anniversary of one of the most heinous massacres and crimes of genocide against humanity in modern history. We recall an image deeply rooted in colonial hatred\u2014among the most horrific suffered by mankind\u2014embodying a blatant disregard for the right to life. It was an image that expressed a moral collapse stripped of the values of civilization, which extremist circles still boast of and persist in their falsehood to this day, unashamed by the lie of “colonialism as a carrier of progress and civilization.”<\/p>\n

In total contradiction to these false claims and slanders, the massacres of May 8, 1945, were a genocide of unarmed Algerians, including women and children, on their own land and in their own home, simply demanding their right to freedom. They were systematically exterminated (45,000 martyrs) under artillery fire and the tracks of military tanks in cold blood and with fiery hatred. During those painful days, we witnessed the burning of entire villages, horrific executions, and the cramming of dozens of martyrs into mass graves in S\u00e9tif, Guelma, and Kherrata for several days. These scenes remain unbearable and will never fall from history; they will haunt their perpetrators with shame and disgrace, just as they haunt those descendants who advocate for ignorance and forgetting with the bankruptcy of their stance against established facts.<\/p>\n

The Algerian martyrs of those tragic massacres were the fuel that accelerated the glorious First of November. The echoes of the oppression of the Algerian people, who aspired for salvation, reached international public opinion across the globe, bringing our just cause to the halls of the United Nations. Those harsh sacrifices will remain a pivotal chapter in our glorious contemporary history, present in every detail within the “Memory File.”<\/b> This file is one of the most important determinants in building bridges toward relations liberated from the crude glorification of a dark and unjust colonial era, and from extremist discourse trapped in a delusional and defunct nostalgia.<\/p>\n

In this context, while I salute all historical, intellectual, and cultural initiatives and events that coincide each year with this immortal anniversary in universities, schools, youth centers, and cultural spaces\u2014aiming to fight forgetfulness and immortalize Algeria’s glories\u2014I announce that I have directed the Ministry of Mujahideen and Right Holders<\/b> to begin implementing two projects:<\/p>\n

    The first:<\/b> National Sessions for Memory and History.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    The second:<\/b> Preparation for a Draft Law related to National Memory.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This is done in loyalty to the martyrs of the May 8, 1945 massacres and all of Algeria’s martyrs, whose pure souls we pray for with reverence on this National Memory Day. We renew our pledge to them to preserve the trust and serve our beloved homeland and the proud Algerian people, in an Algeria that remains victorious, lofty, and resilient.<\/p>\n
