Coinciding with the spirit of the Revolution anniversary, the Laboratory for Theoretical and Applied Linguistic Studies\u2014in coordination with the Faculty of Arts and Languages\u2014hosted a national symposium titled “The Art of Cooking and Food Rituals in Algeria.”
\nOn Monday, November 2, 2026, the “Abdelmadjid Alahem” Lecture Hall hosted the national symposium, “The Art of Cooking and Food Rituals in Algeria: Between Symbolic Representations and Cultural Practices.” Organized by the Faculty of Arts and Languages, the event unfolded in a distinct academic atmosphere that bridged the rigor of scholarly research with the authenticity of cultural heritage.
\nThe event opened with a notable presence, including the symposium chair, Professor Amira Souames; the Vice-Rector for External Relations, Professor Salim Jerboui; the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Languages, Professor Lakhdar Henni; as well as department heads, a distinguished group of professors and researchers, and a large audience of students.
\nThis scholarly gathering held a special symbolic significance, as it coincided with the glorious anniversary of the outbreak of the November 1st Revolution. During the opening remarks, speakers highlighted the profound meaning behind this convergence: the very land for which the martyrs sacrificed their precious blood is the same land that shaped the essence of the Algerian people, molded their collective consciousness, and wove the intricate details of their tangible and intangible identity throughout history. The forum witnessed a remarkable surge in research activity, with its academic sessions featuring over 25 scholarly presentations by researchers from various universities across the country. The papers focused on the following themes:
\n* The semiotic and anthropological dimensions of food-related rituals in Algeria.
\n* Representations of traditional cuisine and dining in literary corpora and heritage texts.
\n* Food as an identity marker and a social practice that conveys collective memory and fosters social cohesion.
\nDiscussions held in the “Abdelmadjid Alahem” Hall reflected a high level of engagement among researchers and students alike. Attendees commended the superior academic quality of the papers presented, as well as the excellent organization\u2014a testament to the ongoing scholarly dynamism of the Faculty of Arts and Languages \u200b\u200band its active contribution to the study of national heritage through rigorous critical methodologies.
