ABSTRACT:

This study aims to assess the development of the level of real wages, and hence the purchasing power, of the wage earners, which represent more than two-thirds of the total employed, in light of the development of the level of nominal wages and the level of prices in Algeria. Despite significant increases in nominal wage levels, which are determined by many determinants such as activity sector and qualifications, in May 2017 compared to May 2010, real wages have grown only at very low rates and sometimes negative during the same period due to the rise in the price level, as measured by the national consumer price index.
