Road traffic safety symposium

As part of strengthening the social role of The University of M’sila and its openness to its socio-economic environment, On March 29, 2021, the first edition of the awareness event on traffic safety under the slogan “Respect traffic rules, protect yourself and protect others”, was launched at University of Mohammed Boudiaf, organized by the Institute of Management of Urban Techniques of the University in coordination with the Directorate of Transport, in Iben El Haitham amphitheater  from 9:00 a.m. in presence of:

  • President of the Provincial People’s Assembly
  • Members of the Province Security Committee
  • Member of the Council of the Nation
  • the Ombudsman of the Republic in the Province
  • National delegate of traffic safety
  •  Rector of the University
  • Secretary General of the University
  • Vice-rectors of the University
  • Director of the Institute of Management of Urban Techniques
  • Professor researchers
  • Provincial Manager of Transport
  • Journalists

The start of the event was on the campus where the various presentations made by social partners and civil society about awareness campaigns for prevention and security on the roads.

The director of the Institute for The Management of Urban Techniques then opened this event, which was the embodiment of the framework agreement between The University of M’sila and the Directorate of Transport on March 8, 2021, and pointed out that this effective cohesion between the local authority and academics and experts and especially civil society will inevitably reduce the risk of traffic accidents inside and outside urban areas, through the involvement of the role of educational schools and driving schools in the promotion of traffic culture. He also declares in his speech that The University of M’sila, represented in the Institute of Management Urban Techniques, will complete an information map of the Province black-point areas and hand it over to local authorities within three months.

Then, the Director of Transport of the Province  presented the results of the work of the Joint Sector Committee for the Prevention of Traffic Accidents and the dissemination of traffic culture from 29 to March 31, 2021 in implementation of the framework agreement between The University of M’sila and the Prefecture (Wilaya), which identified the participation of various actors in the field of traffic safety of the National Gendarmerie, Province security, public works, health, education, religious affairs and some associations active in this field. Also, he provided statistics on the results of traffic accidents in the province and mentioned black points in the area, providing the most important measures and procedures taken by the Committee to address this concern, this is in accordance with the Prefect’s recommendations that an urgent programme of action should be issued and implemented to reduce this phenomenon.

The Prefect (Wali) of M’sila province, Abdelkader Djellaoui, then presented a speech through which he noted the seriousness of the situation, praising the attention of all the actors and organizers of this event, pointing out that it is initiating the embodiment of preliminary solutions such as the duplication of roads in some of the death areas to reduce the phenomenon.

In a speech to Mr. National Delegate for Traffic Safety, he stressed that the consolidation of efforts is needed in order to confront this phenomenon, which annually causes the death of hundrand of people. Thus, thanks to the joint work and the will, it is possible to reach encouraging results in this area.

Then the symposium started, where several valuable interventions were presented by all actors, such as:

  • University of Algiers 2 , intervention entitled “The role of the Algerian school in the development of traffic culture”
  • Intervention of the National Center for Road Prevention Algiers 3 entitled “Security in the roads: problems and solutions”
  • The Directorate of Transport “The role of the cargo and its impact on the road network and traffic accidents”
  • East/West Association for Traffic Safety Entitled “The Importance of Training and Prevention of Traffic Accidents in Algeria”
  • “The role of driving schools in reducing traffic accidents – the National Environmental Educational Project for the Prevention of road Traffic Accidents and Their Effects in the Medium and Long Term”
  • The Institute of Urban Techniques of The University of M’sila “The use of geographic information systems in identifying black areas in traffic accidents”.
