On the occasion of commemorating the National Martyr’s Day, observed on February 18, the Faculty of Economic and Commercial Sciences and Management Sciences organized a distinguished sports event, as part of an initiative aimed at honoring this national memory through an approach that combines recalling historical heritage with strengthening the spirit of cooperation and fraternity within the university community. This initiative also sought to break routine and add an interactive dimension to national celebrations.
This activity took the form of organizing a sports tournament in chess and table tennis, bringing together four faculties: the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, the Faculty of Arts and Languages, the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, in addition to the host faculty, the Faculty of Economic and Commercial Sciences and Management Sciences.
The event was attended by the deans of the faculties, secretaries general, and heads of departments of the four faculties, alongside the participating students.
The program began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by the national anthem, and then a minute of silence in tribute to the souls of the noble martyrs. This was followed by a friendly exhibition match featuring the deans and secretaries general in a warm and fraternal atmosphere, after which the official start of the sports competitions among the students of the four faculties was announced.
The event also included a welcoming address delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Commercial Sciences and Management Sciences, in which he emphasized the importance of reviving national memory among students and linking it to university values based on knowledge, work, and solidarity. At the conclusion of the event, the participating guests were honored in appreciation of their attendance and contribution to the success of this initiative.
During this sports event, Mr. Walid Beshash, known as the Friend of the Tree, was honored in recognition of his efforts in volunteer work and in promoting a culture of environmental protection.
The competitions took place in an atmosphere characterized by optimism, unity, and sportsmanship among the students, reflecting the university’s role in instilling national and human values alongside its academic mission.
