Introduction to the Department
The History Department at Mohamed Boudiaf University of M’sila was established in the academic year 2003-2004, graduating its first cohort under the classical four-year Bachelor’s system in June 2007. Initially, the department was staffed by a group of professors committed to providing high-quality academic and pedagogical training to students. Since then, the department has continued to graduate cohorts up to the present day, welcoming students from the M’sila and Bordj Bou Arréridj provinces as well as from Ouargla.
With the implementation of the LMD (Licence-Master-Doctorate) system, the department began accepting the first cohorts of this new system in the 2009-2010 academic year. The classical system ended after the 2012-2013 academic year, and subsequently, the department welcomed the first Master’s cohorts in the three specializations available: Modern Algerian History, Contemporary Arab World, and History of the Islamic West.
The department has been accredited to organize Master’s and Doctoral examinations, and it has produced numerous graduates in this field. The History Department has significantly contributed to the qualitative training of students, as evidenced by the number of graduates who have succeeded in national Master’s and Doctoral exams. Many of these graduates have been employed as professors, either at the University of M’sila or at other national universities.
The History Department, which includes a distinguished team of academic staff with strong contributions to publishing and participating in various scientific events—whether as reviewers for journals and conferences or as examiners for Master’s and Doctoral students—always strives to achieve outstanding and specialized training in history. With a team well-trained in various historical fields, the department aims to produce knowledgeable and effective individuals who contribute positively to their country.
Head of Department: Professor Abdelhamid Omran
