Introduction to the Department
The Department of Sociology forms one of the foundational pillars upon which the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Mohamed Boudiaf University of M’sila was established, with its inception dating back to 1996. The Department of Sociology is responsible for providing a diverse system of scientific and knowledge-based specialties, as well as research and academic pathways at all three levels of education (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate). The department includes a distinguished group of faculty members with exceptional academic experience in university and academic training, who provide ongoing intellectual and scientific support to the department’s students in an environment characterized by mutual respect and appreciation, commitment, dedication, and creativity. Sociology is a relatively new academic field compared to other social sciences such as history, economics, and anthropology, but its foundational knowledge can be traced back to a blend of shared human and philosophical knowledge. Sociology aims to approach social reality, diagnose it, and attempt to understand the sociological processes and the unfolding events and phases currently occurring in our society and their mechanisms. From this perspective, a set of educational and academic methods has been adopted to equip students with essential skills for a constructive understanding of social phenomena and transformations, and to enable them to master the sociological tools and methods necessary for analyzing and deconstructing these transformations. On the other hand, we have ensured that the training materials align with the skills required by the Algerian job market, considering its specificities and needs, in order to build a constructive bridge between the training processes and the actual needs of development.
