World Environment Day

The participation of the Department of Agricultural Sciences in the activities celebrating World Environment Day was a significant event at the university level. The department played an active role in raising environmental awareness and providing scientific explanations to the Minister during her visit. Researchers Madani Djamila and Semaili Yasmine represented the department and gave detailed explanations about the environmental issues affecting the region, particularly desertification in the southern part of the province.

During the tour, the focus was on the university’s role in promoting scientific research and practical applications to combat desertification. The researchers provided the Minister with a thorough explanation of the factors contributing to the worsening of desertification in the area, such as soil degradation, water scarcity, and the impact of climate change. They also showcased the solutions the university is working on in collaboration with local authorities, such as reforestation projects and the rehabilitation of affected areas.

Through the Department of Agricultural Sciences, the university is conducting studies and research projects aimed at improving environmental conditions and mitigating desertification. In this context, practical initiatives such as reforestation and the involvement of students and researchers in vegetation restoration efforts are being promoted. These initiatives contribute to preserving local biodiversity and enhancing environmental quality.

The Minister’s visit provided an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the academic and governmental sectors in the environmental field, highlighting the importance of the department’s research in offering sustainable solutions to the environmental challenges facing the region, particularly desertification, which poses a significant threat to agricultural and environmental development
