Preamble
In the context of the radical transformations witnessed in the field of media and communication due to recent digital developments, which have clearly reflected in various aspects of the media and communication process—whether in its means, elements, or the nature of its messages, or through its effects on the audience—this has raised multiple problems for researchers in the field at different levels, regarding their use of research tools and theoretical approaches that were previously employed to study phenomena of traditional media in terms of the intellectual framework of theoretical and methodological choices.
This, in turn, has affected the quality, credibility, accuracy, and suitability of media research in the new digital environment.
The digital transformation has led to a scientific revolution in the field of media and communication research due to the particularity of this science in its concepts, methods, and tools, which investigate complex and constantly evolving social and human phenomena across time and space, as it is a rapidly changing environment with unstable characteristics.
This has led to difficulties in studying and analyzing this environment. Since it is not a transient phenomenon but a current reality that has imposed itself strongly, many new phenomena related to the communication and media process have emerged that require research and interpretation.
This has produced methodological and theoretical problems, starting with the multiplicity of terms expressing these new problems posed by media and communication sciences research in its digital context and how to address them.
Conference Objectives
-
Highlighting the most prominent research trends for studying media and communication phenomena in the digital environment and exploring their most important topics and problematics.
-
Opening a space for discussion between researchers and academics about the most important changes that have occurred in media and communication research in its digital context in terms of methodologies and tools. This is through identifying the most modern methodologies keeping pace with this digital transformation, the future of traditional methodologies, and uncovering digital techniques for data collection and analysis in media and communication studies.
-
Providing researchers at various levels (Master’s and PhD students) with basic knowledge related to the approaches and theories explaining media and communication phenomena in light of the digital environment.
-
Identifying the theoretical problems and methodological challenges facing media and communication research in its digital context and discussing ways to confront them.
