A Historical Symposium Commemorating the December 11, 1960 Demonstrations, Under the Theme: “A People’s Uprising”

As part of efforts to revive national memory and reinforce the values ​​of dignity and loyalty to the sacrifices of the martyrs, the Abdelmajid Allam Hall at the University Center hosted a historical symposium on Monday, December 15, 2025, commemorating the December 11, 1960 demonstrations, under the theme: “A People’s Uprising.” The event was inaugurated by Dr. Aayed Lamine, Vice-Rector for Development and Foresight, on behalf of the University Rector, Professor Ammar Boudlaa, along with the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Henni Lakhdar, as well as deans of faculties, directors of institutes, the Deputy Director of Activities, faculty members, researchers, and students from various disciplines.
The symposium served as a significant academic and historical event, shedding light on the dimensions of the December 11, 1960 demonstrations, considered a pivotal moment in the Algerian War of Independence. It highlighted the national and political significance of these demonstrations, which underscored the unity of the Algerian people and their unwavering commitment to their right to freedom and independence.
The discussions also emphasized the importance of transmitting historical memory to future generations and strengthening national awareness among students, thereby contributing to the consolidation of civic values ​​and pride in national identity.
This initiative is part of the college’s cultural and academic program, which aims to connect the university with the nation’s history and transform the university environment into a platform for preserving and safeguarding national memory from oblivion.
